Rhodes Tennis 2009 Season Outlook
After an outstanding fall season, the Rhodes women are looking forward to the spring and a very challenging schedule. This year Rhodes will host two Invitational tournaments on campus. The tournaments will give the women the opportunity to play most of the teams in the eastern half of the SCAC. The SCAC continues to be arguably the most competitive conference in Division III tennis. A spring break trip to Hilton Head, SC will highlight match play in the early spring and will provide match preparation for the SCAC. Led by sophomore,
Anna Beth Sanford, the Lynx will rely on seasoned play at the top with seniors
Allison Tinney and
Kelsey Mansmann occupying the #2 and #3 positions. Juniors
Anna Moak,
Lacy Ward and sophomore Aya Kato will be in contention for the other top positions. A strong freshmen class led by Alice Havner, Carolina Sanchez-Hervez and Alex Phipps will challenge the upper classmen at all positions and will add depth to the 2009 team.
Fall rankings list the women as #30 in the Nation and #7 in the Atlantic/South Region. Sophomore
Anna Beth Sanford is ranked #11 and junior, Sara Gouchnauer is ranked 24 in the region. Two doubles teams earned rankings.
Allison Tinney/Alice Havner are ranked #10 and
